Company Story
Our founder discovered a world health problem: lifestyle-accumulated diseases and chronic illnesses that affected her grandmother’s health, including hypertension, hyperglycemia/diabetes, mild stroke, and dementia. She battled hypertension 20 years ago, underwent intravenous insulin treatment for almost five years to control her blood sugar, followed by mild strokes, and eventually was diagnosed with dementia. She spent her final year unable to walk before passing away.
Witnessing her grandmother’s struggles inspired our founder to research health and nutrition. She realized the importance of being intentional about what one consumes to remain steps ahead of lifestyle-accumulated diseases like hypertension, hyperglycemia, and stroke.
She recalled how her grandmother suffered from ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), struggling to eat due to her health conditions. As an undergraduate studying food science, our founder delved into research, ultimately discovering yoghurt and its numerous health benefits. She developed a prototype and launched Akwaaba Yoghurt during her national service—a name that resonates with Ghanaians and the diaspora.
Akwaaba Yoghurt specializes in producing low-sugar and sugar-free yoghurts that anyone, with or without lifestyle-related health issues, can enjoy guilt-free. We believe in providing nutrient-rich, healthy foods that support optimal body function while maintaining a balanced diet.
Yoghurt offers numerous health benefits due to its rich nutritional profile and probiotics. It is a good source of protein, calcium, and vitamins, supports digestive health, boosts immunity, and aids in weight management. Probiotics such as Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus improve gut health and maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria.
